To Wait or Not to Wait to Shower

As soon as you step out of your tanning bed, you are probably already thinking about a shower. After all, a good tanning bed session will usually cause some perspiration, body heat, stickiness, and if you are using a tanning lotion or sunscreen product, greasy. But taking a shower as soon as you get home might not be the best approach to extending the luster of your new tan. In fact, some tanning products, namely ones with bronzing ingredients in them, recommend waiting a few hours before washing the skin.

It is best to read the manufacturer’s instructions on your tanning lotion label to confirm their recommendation for allowing the product to set in after tanning. As mentioned, some lotions recommend waiting, while others say nothing about taking a shower. If you are not using a tanning product at all, you don’t need to wait at all to take a shower, so long as you are not intending to exfoliate.

After tanning, whether you have to wait to shower or not, be sure to avoid exfoliation or waxing. Skin Type Tanning Tips To Live By

Using a tanning bed with your unique skin type in mind is one of the first steps to safe tanning. Furthermore, it increases your chances at achieving your overall complexion goals, including making your tan last as long as possible. If you are not sure which type of skin you have, consult with a licensed dermatologist or clinician for an evaluation. Or, simply use this guide to do a self-assessment:

➀ Wash your face with a mild cleanser.
➁ Pat your skin completely dry.
➂ Apply a gentle, skin-replenishing toner.
➃ Wait 30 minutes, then examine your skin.

Combination

Combination skin type is simply having a skin type that is more than just one. Many people have both oily and dry skin, just on different parts of their body or face, or during certain times of the year. For instance, you might have oily skin in the summer, but very dry skin in the winter. Or, you might have an oily T-zone, but a dry frame around your face.

➲ If you have combination skin, apply sunscreen, or a moisturizer that contains at least 15 SPF, to your face before tanning. Follow up with a quality facial moisturizer.

Sensitive

As mentioned, sensitive skin is also extreme dry skin. But sensitive skin can also be skin that is easily irritated by internal or external conditions, such as weather, skin care products, medicine, and more. Generally, those with sensitive skin experience external reactions to such factors, especially when exposed to the sun.

➲ If you have sensitive skin, apply at least a 30 SPF sunscreen to your face. Follow up with a facial moisturizer that contains skin-soothing ingredients like aloe.

Here at Broad Ripple Tans, we are doing everything in our power to ensure we accommodate all CDC guidelines in order to protect our clients from transmissible illness and unsafe conditions. As usual, we thoroughly wipe down and sanitize all tanning beds following each use, sterilize all spray tanning equipment and booths, replace used towels with freshly-laundered ones, and maintain a clean and fully-stocked guest bathroom and communal amenity area.
