Indoor Tanning Guide

Tanning Beds

When it comes to indoor tanning, the most popular option is using a tanning bed. Tanning beds contain powerful UV lamps that emit UVA and UVB radiation. UVA rays cause skin cells to darken, while UVB rays are responsible for stimulating melanin production, which can help you achieve a natural-looking glow. To get the best results, use a tanning bed with adjustable levels of UV light exposure—this way, you can gradually build up your base tan without overexposing your skin to too much sunlight.

Before getting started, you will need to choose a tanning bed based on your tanning goals and skin type. There is an option for everyone at the tanning salon. From lay down beds and stand up models to high pressure beds, red light therapy beds, automated spray tan booths, and luxury spa beds, you are sure to find exactly what you’re looking for.

Try out a specific tanning lamp if you’re wanting to get bronzed quicker or hit up an automatic spray tanning bed to bronzed all around! The possibilities are endless with different types of tanning beds available at your fingertips. So, go ahead and explore the options, the perfect type of bed awaits! A good practice is to ask a professional tanning salon consultant for advice before making a decision.

Tanning Oils and Lotions

Now that you’ve picked out your tanning bed, it’s time to think about the skin care and enhancement products you’ll need to protect your skin while tanning. Skin care is just as important indoors as it is outdoors, so make sure to stock up on a quality sunscreen, and if you want to go the extra mile, an indoor tanning lotion and after-tanning moisturizer—these tanning products will help block UV rays and prevent sunburn. It’s also a good idea to invest in protective eyewear, since the eyes are particularly vulnerable to too much exposure.

Indoor Tanning Tips

Finally, follow our tips for getting the best results from your indoor tanning session:

▶ Start slowly by only spending a few minutes in the bed at first and gradually increasing the time.

▶ Make sure to evenly apply tanning lotion prior to your session—this will help ensure an even, natural-looking tan.

▶ Drink plenty of water before and after your session to keep your skin hydrated.

▶ After tanning, apply moisturizer or aloe vera gel to soothe any irritation you may have.

Following these tanning bed guidelines can help you achieve a beautiful glow without putting yourself at risk for sunburn or overexposure. With the right tools and tips, indoor tanning can be a great way to get that bronze look without having to worry about the damaging effects of too much sun! We hope this guide has given you the information you need to stay safe while tanning.

How to Treat Tanning Bed Burns at Home

Tanning beds may be a popular way to get a tan, but they can cause sunburn or even more serious burns if you’re not careful. If you find yourself with one of these painful burns, there are ways to treat it at home and prevent further damage. In this blog post, we’ll discuss how to properly care for your burn and the best treatments for treating tanning bed burns from the comfort of your own home. Tanning Bed Sunburn Treatment Options

Cool Down the Skin

The first step in treating a tanning bed burn is to immediately cool the area with cold water or an ice pack. This will help reduce inflammation and pain, while also providing much-needed relief. Leave the cold compress on for 15 minutes at a time and reapply as needed. You can also take ibuprofen or other anti-inflammatory medications to further reduce swelling and discomfort.

Use a Healing Ointment

For more serious burns, topical ointments can be applied to help soothe the skin, replenish moisture, and promote healing. Over-the-counter products such as aloe vera gels or hydrocortisone creams are usually effective for milder cases, but it may be necessary to seek medical advice if your burn is more severe. You may be prescribed an antibiotic ointment or a stronger steroid cream to reduce inflammation and prevent infection.

Keep It Clean

It’s also important to keep the affected area clean, especially if you have blisters or open wounds. Gently wash the area with soap and water several times a day and apply an antibacterial ointment to help speed up healing. If your skin starts to peel, use moisturizers to keep it from becoming dry and irritated.

Protect It

Finally, avoid exposing the burned areas of skin to direct sunlight for at least two weeks as UV rays can aggravate the damage. It’s also best to wear loose-fitting clothing that covers your burn since tight fabric can cause further irritation and slow down healing time.

Conclusion

Treating tanning bed burns at home can be a tricky process, but with the right care and attention, you can reduce inflammation, speed up healing time, and prevent infection. Remember to cool down the area immediately after your tanning session and apply topical ointments or creams as needed. And don’t forget to cover the burned areas with clothing when going out in the sun. Following these simple steps should help keep your skin healthy and looking great!

How to Prevent Tanning Bed Burns

If you use a tanning bed, there are a few steps you can take to avoid getting burned. First, make sure to use a tanning lotion product with SPF to protect your skin. Limit your sessions to 10-15 minutes at a time, and never go more than once a week. Additionally, always wear protective eyewear to shield your eyes from the strong rays. By taking these precautions, you can still get a natural-looking tan without risking the health of your skin.

Furthermore, you want to be sure you’re choosing a reputable tanning salon. Not only does a quality salon provide you with a better overall experience, but it also ensures that you’re safe while soaking up some rays. Unlike lesser establishments, reputable tanning salons use high-quality equipment and employ knowledgeable staff to help guide you through the process. They also take cleanliness seriously and focus on maintaining a safe and healthy environment. So, next time you’re looking for a tanning experience, make sure to do your research and choose a salon with a solid reputation. Your skin (and peace of mind!) will thank you.

Get Beach Ready! A Guide to Maximizing Your Tan Before Vacation

Summer is almost here, and with it comes the promise of beach days and vacations in the sun. But before you can hit the sand, there’s one thing you need to do: get beach ready! That means getting a tan that will make your friends green with envy. And for many people, that means hitting up an indoor tanning salon for a sweat session in a tanning bed.

But if you’ve never tanned indoors before, don’t worry – we have all the tips and advice you need to maximize your bronze glow while minimizing any risks associated with indoor tanning. From choosing the right salon to picking out lotions and following safety precautions, this guide will help ensure your skin looks as perfect as possible when it’s time to hit the beach!

Choose a Reputable Tanning Salon

First, you need to find the right salon. It’s important to look for a reputable business with well-maintained tanning beds and knowledgeable staff who can answer your questions about the equipment and processes involved. Don’t forget to ask whether any additional fees apply – some salons may charge extra for items such as protective eyewear or lotion.

Customized Tanning Sessions

Once you’ve picked out a salon, it’s time to pick the type of tanning session that will work best for you. The most common option is UV tanning in a bed, but spray tanning (a form of sunless/self-tanning) is becoming increasingly popular. Your choice should depend on factors such as desired results, budget, and skin type. Simply ask the professional tanning consultant behind the counter for customized recommendations on tanning lotions, bed types, tanning frequency, post-tanning skin care, and more.

Lotion Application Matters

No matter which method you choose, it’s important to apply a protective lotion before each session. Not only will this help protect your skin from burning, but the right lotions can help enhance your tan for maximum beach-day glow. Be sure to ask the salon staff about their recommended products and follow the directions on any packaging carefully!

Do Not Over Tan

Finally, remember that safety should always come first when it comes to indoor tanning. Most salons recommend limiting your sessions to no more than once or twice per week, depending on your skin type and history of sun exposure. And never forget to wear protective eyewear during each session – even indirect UV rays can harm unprotected eyes.

Sun Protection Tips for the Beach

Protecting your skin is essential when spending time at the beach. Sunburn and prolonged exposure to UV rays can be incredibly damaging, so it’s important to take precautions! Make sure to apply ample sunscreen, with SPF 30 or higher, all over exposed skin before heading to the beach, and reapply frequently throughout the day. Don’t forget to cover areas such as behind your knees and on your neck and shoulders too. If you do get a sunburn, try soaking in cool water or applying Aloe Vera gel to help relieve discomfort, while also avoiding further sun exposure. Remember that while a tan might seem desirable on vacation, it’s not worth risking long-term skin damage!

Enjoy Your Beach Vacation!

Getting beach-ready doesn’t have to be difficult or risky – just be sure to follow our advice and you’ll soon be in the golden glow of your dreams! Now get out there and show off that perfect tan on your next vacation!

10 Reasons Why Spray Tanning is the Best Choice for Your Skin

Are you looking for a way to get the perfect tan without risking your skin’s health? If so, spray tanning is the best choice for you! Spray tanning has become increasingly popular in recent years due to its convenience and safety. There are many benefits of spray tanning that make it an ideal option for those who want a sun-kissed glow without exposing their skin to UV rays.

Here are ten reasons why spray tanning is the best choice for your skin.

Why Choose Spray Tanning?

1. Quick and Convenient: Spray tanning is a quick process that can be done in the comfort of your own home or at a local tanning salon. This makes it much more convenient than traditional tanning, which often involves long stays in a sunbed or outdoors. Furthermore, spray tans usually only take 10-15 minutes to complete!

2. Natural Color: Spray tans provide a natural-looking color that looks great on all skin tones. This is due to the special tanning solution used during the spray session, which contains a blend of colors designed to work with each individual’s skin tone, providing an even coverage that won’t leave any streaks or patches.

3. Long Lasting: Spray tans usually last anywhere from 5-10 days, depending on how often you shower and if you exfoliate regularly. This makes it a great option for those who want to maintain a sun-kissed glow over an extended period of time.

4. No Sun Damage: Unlike traditional tanning methods, spray tanning does not involve any exposure to the UV rays of the sun. This means that your skin is safe from any potential damage caused by prolonged sun exposure, such as wrinkles, age spots, and skin cancer.

5. Cost Effective: Spray tanning is typically more affordable than traditional tanning methods due to its convenience and quick completion time. It’s also much cheaper than purchasing multiple bottles of self-tanning lotion and having to reapply throughout the week.

6. Streak-Free: If you’ve ever used a self-tanning lotion, then you know how difficult it can be to apply evenly without leaving any streaks or patches. With spray tanning, this isn’t an issue as the solution is applied evenly with a spray gun! This ensures that your skin looks flawless after every session.

7. Customizable: Spray tanning solutions come in a variety of shades, allowing you to achieve whatever color of tan you desire. You can also customize your shade by mixing different colors together or layering them on top of each other for a more natural look.

8. Smells Good: Unlike self-tanning lotions, spray tans don’t have a strong chemical smell. Most tanning salons use solutions that are scented with natural essential oils, giving off a subtle and pleasant aroma.

9. Enhances Skin Tone: Spray tanning can help even out your skin tone and enhance the look of your complexion. This is due to the active ingredient in the solution which helps reduce redness, dark spots, and other imperfections for a more even skin tone.

10. Instant Results: Finally, one of the biggest advantages of spray tanning is that it provides instant results – this means you can leave the salon with a sun-kissed glow without having to wait for hours or days.

Additionally, research suggests that Vitamin D has a positive impact on mental health as well – aiding in reducing stress, depression, and anxiety.

❷ Skin Care

Additionally, indoor tanning can help improve skin conditions like psoriasis. Additionally, indoor tanning can offer relief for those suffering from eczema as it helps to reduce inflammation and alleviate itching.

❸ Mood Enhancement

Finally, indoor tanning can help to improve your mood as UV light helps to stimulate the production of serotonin in the brain which is known to increase feelings of happiness and well-being. Additionally, indoor tanning can be a relaxing way to end the day while giving you a beautiful, bronzed glow. So, if you’re looking for a way to relax, improve your mood, and get that gorgeous tan – indoor tanning is a great option.

Top Ten Tips to Reach Your Winter Complexion Goals

1. Use a Humidifier: The dry winter air can be damaging to your skin, making it look dull and lifeless. To keep your complexion looking its best, use a humidifier in your bedroom at night to add moisture back into the air. This will help keep your skin hydrated and soft during the coldest months of the year.

2. Exfoliate Regularly: Dry skin can build up in winter, so it’s important to keep on top of exfoliation. To gently remove dead skin cells and reveal a brighter complexion, use a mild scrub or chemical exfoliant every other day.

3. Protect Your Skin: To prevent windburn and dehydration, always apply sunscreen before heading outdoors. Choose a product with SPF 30 or higher and make sure to reapply after swimming or sweating.

4. Use Gentle Skin Care Products: Choose mild, fragrance-free skin care products that are specifically designed for winter weather. Look for moisturizers, cleansers, and serums that contain humectants like hyaluronic acid, which help to keep skin hydrated.

5. Invest in Face Mist: Facial mists are a great way to quickly add moisture and refresh your face throughout the day. Look for products that contain antioxidants like vitamin C, which can help brighten the complexion.

6. Stay Hydrated: Drinking plenty of water is important for healthy skin all year round, but it’s especially crucial in winter when the air is drier. Make sure to drink at least 8 cups of water per day to keep your skin cells hydrated and plump.

7. Eat Healthy Foods: Eating a balanced diet with plenty of nutrient-rich fruits and vegetables can help keep your skin looking healthy and glowing in winter. Foods like avocados, spinach, and sweet potatoes are packed with skin-friendly vitamins and antioxidants.

8. Use Facial Oil: If your skin feels particularly dry or irritated, apply a few drops of facial oil to help nourish and protect it. Look for oils that contain ingredients like jojoba and rosehip, which help to hydrate and reduce inflammation.

9. Take a Warm Bath: Taking a warm bath or shower can be helpful for keeping your skin in balance during the winter months. Avoid hot water, as this can strip away natural oils and leave skin feeling even drier. Add a few drops of essential oils or a soothing bath bomb to really pamper and nourish skin.

10. Try Spray Tanning: If you’re looking for a way to give your skin a natural-looking glow, spray tanning is an easy option. Just make sure to choose the right formula and application technique to prevent over-tanning or patchiness.

Nurture Your Skin Complexion Year Round

Following these tips can help keep your complexion looking healthy, glowing, and beautiful all winter long! From using a humidifier to investing in a good facial oil, there are plenty of simple strategies you can use to boost your skin’s condition. So don’t be afraid to embrace the cold weather – your skin will thank you!

Facts About Vitamin D and its Effect on Skin Health

Are you getting enough Vitamin D? Do you know why Vitamin D is good for you? Continue below to learn some important facts about Vitamin D, particularly how it benefits our skin health.

The Importance of Vitamin D

Vitamin D is an important fat-soluble nutrient that helps the body absorb calcium and maintain strong bones. It also plays a role in immune function and cell growth. A lack of vitamin D can lead to weak bones, and a higher risk for fractures and falls. Vitamin D deficiency has also been linked to an increased risk for certain cancers, type 1 diabetes, and multiple sclerosis.

Most people can get the vitamin D they need by spending time in the sun and by taking supplements. Vitamin D is also found in a few foods, such as fatty fish, eggs, and fortified milk. If you don’t get enough vitamin D from these sources, you may be at risk for deficiency.

Vitamin D Deficiency

Vitamin D is an essential nutrient that helps maintain strong bones and teeth, and it plays a role in many other important functions in the body. Unfortunately, vitamin D deficiency is common, especially among older adults. Symptoms of vitamin D deficiency can include fatigue, muscle weakness, bone pain, and depression.

Vitamin D deficiency can also lead to more serious health problems, such as osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease. The best way to prevent vitamin D deficiency is to get regular exposure to sunlight and take a daily supplement that contains vitamin D3 (the form of vitamin D that is most easily absorbed by the body).

Vitamin D and Your Skin

Vitamin D not only synthesizes and metabolizes in the skin, but it also regulates many of its processes including cellular proliferation and differentiation, apoptosis, barrier maintenance, and immune functions. Vitamin D is essential for good skin health. It helps the body to create new skin cells, which can help to repair damage and keep the skin looking young and healthy. Vitamin D also helps to regulate the production of oil in the skin, which can clog pores and lead to acne. Getting enough vitamin D can help to keep your skin looking clear and radiant.

How to Get More Vitamin D

There are a few things you can do to make sure you’re getting enough vitamin D. First, spend time outside in the sun every day or visit your local Broad Ripple tanning salon when you can. If you can’t get enough Vitamin D, take a supplement that provides at least 400 IU per day. You can also eat foods that are rich in vitamin D, such as fatty fish, eggs, and fortified milk. By getting enough vitamin D, you can help keep your bones strong and reduce your risk for several chronic diseases. Be sure to talk to your doctor about the best way to get enough vitamin D for your individual needs.

Frequently Asked Questions About Over Tanning

Now that summer is over, you might be ready for more indoor tanning bed sessions. But how much is too much when it comes to indoor tanning? Can you over-tan? Can persistent tanning bed use be bad for your health? For your skin?

Continue below to review some frequently asked questions about over-tanning in a tanning bed to help ease your concerns about UV exposure this fall and winter.

FAQS About Tanning Too Much

Who doesn’t love a natural looking golden tan year-round? Indoor tanning is a wonderful amenity because it provides an opportunity for us to achieve our seasonal complexion goals even when we cannot rely on the natural son to do so. On the other hand, indoor tanning requires a responsible approach to both skin care and tanning bed usage. Overall, the answer to the question, “is it possible to over tan?” Is a resounding yes. Whether or not over tanning is bad for your skin or health is a more muddled answer that requires the guidance of your trusted physician or medical practitioner.

For now, here are some frequently asked questions about over-tanning, which might help you understand your boundaries and/or limitations with indoor tanning:

How Can I Tell If I Have Tanned Too much?

There are various signs you can look for that indicate you have gotten too much sun or have overused a tanning bed. Obviously, your skin will be very tanned, very red, or burnt. This really depends on your skin type and how well your skin responds to UV exposure. Aside from complexion factors, signs of too much tanning might include hot skin, skin soreness, dehydration, mild headache, and even symptoms similar to a minor flu. If you have a headache accompanied with flu-like symptoms, you might have something known as heat illness. See a doctor right away if you are experiencing signs of heat sickness.

What Level of UV Ray Exposure Can My Skin Take?

The amount of UV radiation that your skin is capable of handling will depend on various factors, mostly how well your skin tans and how susceptible you are to sunburn. A certain degree of UV radiation is good for you, as it is a natural source of vitamin D and endorphins in the skin. Too much UV radiation exposure can lead to sunburns, skin irritations, rashes, sunspots, and in more serious cases, skin diseases like cancer.

How Often Can I Use an Indoor Tanning Bed?

A healthy indoor tanning routine for everyone, as it depends on your skin type and how well your skin reacts to UV Ray exposure. Someone with a darker skin tone who tans easily might be able to safely tan 3 to 5 times a week, while someone with fair skin who burns easily is better off tanning once or twice a week and a low level bed. Always discuss your skin complexion goals with the tanning salon consultant at the counter for personalized recommendations for a safe tanning routine.

What Can I Do to Alleviate My Skin if I Tanned Too Much?

Whether you look burnt or not, skin can feel sore, dry, and irritated after tanning too much. If this is the case for you, reach for those high quality moisturizers and skin revitalizing creams, like aloe vera and  cocoa butter. Your local Indianapolis tanning salon will have a wide range of after-tanning products and lotions such as these that will help your skin heal and replenish faster. Soaking in an oatmeal, apple cider vinegar, or baking soda bath also helps with swollen or reddened skin.

Should I Still Wear Sunblock if it is Cloudy Outside?

Do you feel safer when the clouds are out, so you go lighter on the sunblock? Not a good idea. That’s because you can still catch a sunburn in cloudy weather. Continue reading to learn more about the topic, and how to protect yourself from overexposure and sunburns in all kinds of weather.

Sunburn Protection 101

Although most people associate sunburns with hot, bright, summer weather, your skin can also burn in cold, overcast weather. The sun emits two types of rays, UVB and UVA rays, both of which have the power to shine through clouds, mist, and fog; and both of which always do, delivering the potential for skin to burn from overexposure. This is why some of the worst sunburns happen when they are least expected. People do not protect their skin from the sun when they do not think they require any protection.

The ultraviolet radiation emitted by the sun is what changes the color of your skin, either into a tan or a burn. UVB rays are the immediate cause of skin color changes, while UVA rays are the ones that penetrate deep into the skin. But UVA rays are not just from direct sun, they are also a product of natural light through glass, windows, clouds, mist, and fog. They are also the same rays used in tanning beds.

Sunblock on Cloudy Days

Depending on the type of cloud, only a certain level of UVA rays emits through and penetrate the skin. Dark grey clouds allow less UVA exposure than white, fluffy ones. Either way, sunscreen is a must. On days with dark clouds, a milder sunscreen will do, but on days with fluffy white clouds, choose a stronger sunblock. And don’t forget that elevation has an effect on sun exposure too!

Regardless of which type of clouds the day has in store, if you are going to be higher up in elevation, say on a mountain or hills, then you will need a stronger sunblock and more coverage. The higher you are, the close you are to the sun’s UVA rays. So, it makes sense that you are more vulnerable to a sunburn at higher elevations. The same goes for wintery days filled will sledding and snowman building. You can still burn in these conditions, so sufficient coverage is a must.

Just Don’t Go Overboard
